What is the Gospel? This question should be answered with no hesitancy by all believers. If asked to find chapter and verse to prove the Gospel, what verses would you share? Some may read through the Romans road and that is not a bad direction. But is it clear in these verses to understand the Gospel? In my opinion, the greatest passage in the Bible that portrays the Gospel is I Corinthians 15:1-4 which says, “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.” These verses are clear and concise about the Gospel. Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again the third day – short, but true. It is a sad thing when a Christian has no Bible verses to prove the Gospel. What if a lost individual asks you about your faith? What would your answer be? It is important to have verses memorized and ready to share when opportunities come our way. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” This verse is great to memorize. It speaks of the Gospel and how to be saved. Every Christian should know the Gospel. Memorization is a wonderful tool for witnessing.
1 Peter 3:15 says, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” This verse should challenge us to always have an answer. If someone asks for a reason of the hope that is in you, what would you say? Know the Gospel and always have Bible verses to back up your knowledge.
