Romans 13:11-12 says “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.”
Although these verses were recorded hundreds of years ago, they stand valid and true today. Verse 11 first says, “knowing the time.” Look at the times we live in now in year 2022. COVID-19 has continued for two years. We have witnessed violent protests and division in our country like never seen before. The same things we see in America are also seen globally. Knowing the time, the Bible says, “that now it is high time to awake out of sleep.” Many Christians today are in a spiritual sleep, seemingly out of touch with the times we live in. There is continuous false hope that all things will go back to normal. The greatest hope we have in 2022 is Titus 2:13, “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.”
Back in Romans 13, the next phrase says, “for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand.” Our deliverance from this cursed world, the deliverance of our flesh, and the deliverance of our sorrows and heartaches are nearer than when we believed. Knowing the time and knowing that the day is at hand, the Bible gives us a game plan. What should we do while living in this crazy world? The Bible says, “let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.” This is something Christians can and should do. The works of darkness are more prevalent every day. As children of God, we need to cast off those works of darkness from our lives and put on the armour of light. Jesus is that light. The light of Christ should be shone brightly during these dark days. My challenge to you is to put on the armour of light. Develop a closer relationship with the Lord. Get familiar with God’s Word and in turn, share the Gospel with the lost. Although it is darker and darker every day, we need to put on the armour of light.
