I Peter 5:6,7 says, “ Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
God cares for you. Stop and think about that statement. It should move your heart.
I am always astounded when I stop and think about God and how He cares for me. How could the Almighty Holy God, who set the planets in the heavens, care about one single insignificant sinful person? This is simply a man trying to understand the divine. God is higher than us and his ways are not our ways. While I see myself as broken and insignificant, God loved me to the point of giving His own Son to die for me. God’s love for us makes us valuable. Words cannot contain the depth of “care” or love God has for us. In fact, His care for a single person shows His unexplainable power and majesty.
One of the ways He shows this care for a single person is through prayer. God not only commands us to pray, but He delights in our prayers. Proverbs 15:8b says, “…the prayer of the upright is his delight.” I believe it can be said that you only delight in something you care about.
The second statement in I Peter 5:7 is very well known and often quoted, but the depth of the first statement is missed. When verse 7 says, “casting all your care upon him,” what does that mean? The word “casting” is defined as throwing, sending, deciding, or turning. How would we practice this thought of “casting” all our care upon him? We would do this through prayer. When we have a need, we should go to God in prayer, petitioning the throne of God, and rely on His goodness to care for us. When we have anxiety concerning something we’re facing, we go to God in prayer.
Once we’ve gone to God in prayer, concerning one of our “cares,” we can have peace, because it’s in God’s hands now. He is kind and merciful, and God cares for you.
